Sustained-release tablet: Peach to light orange sustained-release coated tablet, round, biconvex, plain on both sides.
Each sustained-release tablet contains: Butamirate citrate 50 mg.
Syrup: Clear orange to orange syrup with orange flavor.
Each 5 mL (1 teaspoonful) contains: Butamirate citrate 7.5 mg.

Sustained-release tablet: Butamirate citrate is a cough suppressant which is neither chemically, nor pharmacologically related to opium alkaloids.
The substance is thought to have central effect. However, the exact mechanism of action is unknown.
Butamirate citrate possesses non-specific anticholinergic and bronchospasmolytic effects, which facilitate the respiratory function.
Butamirate does not include habit-forming effects or dependence.
Butamirate citrate has a broad therapeutic margin; thus it is well tolerated, even at high doses and well suited for cough relief in adults and children.
Syrup: Butamirate citrate is a cough suppressant used in non-productive cough and stated to have central action. Its antitussive effect is to act centrally (on brain, and specifically, the vagus nerve) or locally (on the respiratory tract) to suppress the cough reflex.

Sustained-release tablet: Adolescents over 12 years of age: 1 tablet twice daily.

Syrup: The usual dose is 30 mg daily in 3 to 4 divided doses by mouth, or as prescribed by the physician.
What Should the Patient Do if They Miss a Dose: Sustained-release tablet: If the patient misses the dose for the day just take the next dose and subsequent doses at the usual recommended schedule. Do not double the dose unless recommended by a physician.
Syrup: Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
Signs and Symptoms of Overdose: Sustained-release tablet: Overdose with butamirate may cause the following symptoms: somnolence, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness and low blood pressure.
Syrup: Somnolence, nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness and hypotension.
What to Do When the Patient Has Taken More Than the Recommended Dosage: Sustained-release tablet: If the patient has taken more than the recommended dosage, consult a physician.
Syrup: Gastric lavage; activated charcoal; monitoring and treatment of the vital functions if required. There is no known specific antidote.
When Should the Patient Not Take This Medicine: If the patient is hypersensitive to butamirate citrate or to any of the ingredients.
Sustained-release tablet: This product contains FD & C Yellow Lake #5 (Tartrazine) which may cause allergic-type reaction (including bronchial asthma) in certain susceptible person.
Sustained-release tablet: Do not use with other expectorant medicines. If symptoms persist or do not improve, speak to a doctor. If the patient is pregnant or breast-feeding, do not use butamirate citrate unless recommended by the doctor.
Information Concerning Excipients Lactose Monohydrate: If the patient has intolerance to some sugars, contact the doctor before taking this medicinal product.
Syrup: This cough medicine should not be used for prolonged periods of time.
It may cause drowsiness and dizziness. Used with caution if the patient drives or uses machines.
The patient should talk to a doctor or pharmacist before taking butamirate.
Sustained-release tablet: The following side effects may occur in rare cases: Somnolence, itchy skin rashes, nausea, and diarrhea.
Syrup: Very common in nervous system disorders: somnolence.
Gastrointestinal disorders: nausea, diarrhea.
Skin and subcutaneous disorders: urticaria.
When Should the Patient Consult a Doctor: If any adverse effect occurs.
Sustained-release tablet: Avoid taking other cough medicines simultaneously, because it may lead to accumulation of bronchial secretions in the lungs. The patient should inform the doctor or pharmacist before use if they are taking, or has recently taken, any regular medicine on prescription or over-the-counter products.
Syrup: It is not known whether butamirate affects the way other medicines work or whether butamirate is affected by other medicines.
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
