Butamirate citrate
Indications/Uses
SR tab: Symptomatic treatment of cough of various origins. Syr: Cough suppressant in non-productive cough.
Dosage/Direction for Use
SR tab Adult 1 tab tid (at least 8 hr between doses). Max daily dose: 3 tab. Adolescent >12 yr 1 tab bid. Max daily dose: 2 tab. Syr 30 mg daily in 3-4 divided doses.
Administration
May be taken with or without food. SR tab: Swallow whole.
Special Precautions
SR tab: Do not use w/ other expectorants. Caution in patient w/ intolerance to some sugars eg, lactose monohydrate. Contains FD&C yellow lake #5 (tartrazine) which may cause allergic-type reaction (including bronchial asthma) in certain susceptible person. Not to be used during pregnancy & lactation. Syr: Not to be used for prolonged periods of time. May cause drowsiness & dizziness; caution when driving or using machines.
Adverse Reactions
Somnolence; nausea, diarrhea; urticaria, itchy skin rashes.
Drug Interactions
SR tab: May lead to accumulation of bronchial secretions in the lungs when taken w/ other cough medicines.
