Thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12).
Description
Each film-coated tablet contains Thiamine Mononitrate (Vitamin B1) 500 mg, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6) 250 mg, Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) 1 mg. BYDEN 500 is a combination of the 3 essential neurotropic vitamins B1, B6 and B12 in high dosage. Vitamin B1, B6 and B12 are of special importance for the metabolism in the peripheral and central nervous system. Their effect on the regeneration of nerves has been shown in various investigations using the vitamins individually and in combination. Vitamin B1, B6 and B12 (BYDEN 500) is a pink film-coated tablet, oval, biconvex, plain on one side, bisected on the other side.
Action
Pharmacology: Vitamin B1, B6 and B12 (BYDEN 500) is a combination of the 3 essential neurotropic vitamins B1, B6 and B12 in high dosage. Vitamin B1, B6 and B12 are of special importance for the metabolism in the peripheral and central nervous system. Vitamin B1, B6 and B12 are indispensable to normal nerve cell metabolism and this combination greatly enhances their therapeutic efficacy as compared to the effect of the respective factors given individually. In the human body, Thiamine mononitrate is converted to Thiamine pyrophosphate (active form), which is coenzyme in the decarboxylation of α-keto acids.
On the other hand, pyridoxal hydrochloride will be transferred to pyridoxal phosphate, co-enzyme reaction in carboxylation and transamination, which are involved in protein and amino acid metabolism. Vitamin B12 is essential in nucleic acid and myelin synthesis, for cell growth and replication and maintaining the integrity of the nervous tissue.
Indications/Uses
Neurological and other disorders associated with disturbance of metabolic functions influenced by B-complex vitamins, including diabetic polyneuropathy, alcoholic peripheral neuritis and post-influenza neuropathies.
Treatment of neuritis and neuralgia of the spinal nerves, especially facial paresis, cervical syndrome, low back pain and ischialgia.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Taken orally.
Prophylaxis: 1-2 tablets daily.
Therapeutic: 2-4 tablets daily.
Or as prescribed by the physician.
Overdosage
Signs and symptoms: Vitamin B1 and B12 are known to be generally safe in humans when taken at recommended doses.
Symptoms which may be expected are drowsiness, nausea, hypotension, dizziness, excitatory states, respiratory depression, convulsion and coma.
Long-term administration of large doses of pyridoxine can cause sensory neuropathy or neuronopathy syndromes. Peripheral sensory neuropathy has been reported in individuals receiving pyridoxine dosages of 1-4 g daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to any other active ingredients or excipients of Vitamin B1, B6 and B12 (BYDEN 500).
Use in Children: Not suitable for the treatment of children due to the high content of vitamin B-complex.
Special Precautions
Neuropathies are described under long-term intake (6-12 months) of >50 mg mean daily dose of Vitamin B6. Therefore, under long-term treatment, regular monitoring is recommended.
Vitamin B1, B6 and B12 (BYDEN 500) tablet contain lactose and sucrose; therefore, its use is not recommended in patients with intolerance to some sugars (i.e. rare hereditary galactose or fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption, Lapp lactase deficiency, or sucrose-isomaltose insufficiency).
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity reactions to Vitamin B1 e.g. sweating, tachycardia, skin reactions with itching and urticaria are very rare. Gastrointestinal complaints e.g. nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or abdominal pain may occur.
Administration of Vitamin B12 in doses greater than 10 mcg daily may produce haematological response in patients with folate deficiency.
Drug Interactions
The effect of Levodopa may be reduced when vitamin B6 is administered concomitantly.
Pyridoxine-antagonists (e.g. Isoniazid, Cycloserine, Penicillamine, Hydralazine): The efficacy of Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) may be decreased.
Loop Diuretics (e.g. Furosemide): In long-term use, the blood level of thiamine may be reduced.
Storage
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Protect from light. Always keep container tightly closed.
