Simacort Special Precautions

Withdrawn therapy with gradual tapering of dose.
Use with caution in patients with cirrhosis; long-term use has been associated with fluid retention.
Use with caution in patients with diverticulitis; Triamcinolone increase risk of GI perforation.
Use with caution in patients with hypothyroidism. Metabolic clearance of Triamcinolone is decreased in hypothyroid patients. May adjust dose if necessary.
Use with caution in patients with hypertension. Use has been associated with fluid retention, electrolyte disturbances, and hypertension.
Use with caution in patients with myasthenia gravis; exacerbation of symptoms has occurred, especially during initial treatment with Triamcinolone.
Use cautiously in ocular herpes simplex because of possible corneal perforation.
Use with caution in patients with osteoporosis; high doses and/or long-term use of Triamcinolone has been associated with increased bone loss and osteoporotic fractures.
Psychotic tendencies may be aggravated by Triamcinolone.
Edema may occur in the presence of renal disease with a fixed or decreased glomerular filtration rate. Use with caution in patients with renal insufficiency.
Prolonged use of Triamcinolone may increase the incidence of secondary infection, mask acute infection (including fungal infection), prolong or exacerbate viral infections.
