Mosapride citrate
Indications/Uses
GI symptoms associated w/ functional dyspepsia (chronic gastritis, heartburn, nausea, vomiting).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
History of hypersensitivity to mosapride citrate or any other 5-HT4 receptor agonists.
Special Precautions
Not to be continued if no improvement in GI symptoms after approx 2 wk of therapy. Discontinue immediately if early signs/symptoms of hepatic toxicity or elevated liver enzymes occur. Situations where stimulated GI motility may be dangerous, including mechanical GI obstruction, perforation, or hemorrhage. Contraindicated w/ some prokinetic agents eg, cisapride, domperidone, levosulpride, metoclopramide. Severe (including fatal) hepatotoxicity. Avoid use during pregnancy & lactation. Discontinue breastfeeding during treatment. Childn. Elderly (reduced kidney & liver function).
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhoea/loose stools, dry mouth, malaise, headache, abdominal pain. Eosinophilia, elevated triglycerides, AST, ALT & γ-glutamyl transpeptidase levels.
Drug Interactions
Decreased effect w/ anticholinergic agents (atropine sulfate & butyl-scopolamine Br). Increased max blood conc & AUC0-4, & prolonged t½ w/ erythromycin.
