Parenteral Uses: Conditions wherein volume and/or sodium chloride replacement or maintenance is needed but dextrose is contraindicated such as in diabetic ketoacidosis.
Pre and Post blood transfusion.

Used in cases wherein potassium should be avoided as in: Anuria or oliguria due to renal impairment or dehydration; Hyperkalemia and increased blood urea nitrogen (BUN) due to reduced urinary output, surgery and tissue damage; Cardiac failure.
Non-Parenteral Uses: Surgical washing solution.
