Indications/Uses
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult, elderly & childn >12 yr 1 loz dissolved slowly in mouth every 3-6 hr. Max: 5 loz/24 hr for 3 days.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to flurbiprofen, aspirin or other NSAIDs. Existing or history of peptic ulcerations/haemorrhage. History of GI bleeding or perforation related to previous NSAIDs therapy. Severe heart, renal or hepatic failure. Last trimester of pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if GI bleeding, ulceration, 1st appearance of skin rash, mucosal lesions, any other sign of hypersensitivity or bacterial infection occur. Previous history of bronchial asthma or allergic disease; HTN &/or heart failure, GI disease eg, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease. SLE & mixed connective tissue disease; cardiac impairment; serious skin reactions eg, exfoliative dermatitis, SJS, TEN. Not to be taken by patients w/ fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrose-isomaltase insufficiency. Avoid use w/ NSAIDs including selective COX-2 inhibitors. Concomitant use of oral corticosteroids, anticoagulants (eg, warfarin), SSRIs, anti-platelet agents (eg, ASA); diuretics. Renal impairment & mild to moderate hepatic dysfunction. Avoid use during 1st 6 mth of pregnancy. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Dizziness, headache, paresthesia; throat irritation; diarrhoea, mouth ulceration, nausea, oral pain, paraesthesia & discomfort, oropharyngeal pain.
Drug Interactions
Increased adverse events w/ other NSAIDs including COX-2 selective inhibitors, low-dose ASA. Enhanced effects of anticoagulants eg, warfarin. Increased risk of GI ulceration or bleeding w/ antiplatelet agents, SSRIs. Reduced effects of antihypertensives, diuretics, mifepristone. Increased risk of ARs w/ alcohol, corticosteroids. Exacerbated cardiac failure, reduced GFR & increased plasma glycoside levels. Increased risk of nephrotoxicity w/ ciclosporin, tacrolimus. Increased lithium, phenytoin serum levels. Elevated MTX conc. Altered blood glucose levels w/ oral antidiabetics. Hyperkalaemia w/ K-sparing diuretics. Delayed excretion of flurbiprofen w/ probenecid, sulfinpyrazone. Increased risk of developing convulsions w/ quinolones. Increased risk of haematological toxicity w/ zidovudine.
