As with other intramuscular injections, use with caution in patients on anticoagulant therapy.
Immunosuppressive therapies, including irradiations, anti-metabolites, alkylating agents, cytotoxic drugs and corticosteroids (used in greater than physiological doses), may reduce the immune response to vaccines. Short-term (< 2 weeks) corticosteroids therapy or intra-articular, bursa, or tendon injections with corticosteroids would not be immunosuppressive. (See Precautions.)
