Per 0.5 mL Inactivated influenza vaccine [surface antigens (hemagglutinin & neuraminidase), prepared in cell cultures]
Indications/Uses
Active immunization for prevention of flu disease caused by flu virus subtypes A & B for adult & childn ≥6 mth.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM Inj in deltoid muscle of the upper arm for adult & childn ≥36 mth; anterolateral aspect of the thigh (or deltoid muscle if muscle mass is adequate) in childn 6-35 mth. Adult & childn ≥6 mth 0.5 mL as single inj. Childn <9 yr who have not been previously vaccinated or infected Administer 2nd dose after at least 4-wk interval.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to vaccine or formalin. History of severe hypersensitivity reaction &/or convulsive symptom to previous flu vaccination; Guillain-Barré syndrome or other neurological disorder w/in 6 wk of previous flu vaccination; anaphylactic reaction; suspected allergic reaction including systemic rash to previous vaccination. Febrile disease or acute infection. Fever. Other inappropriate diagnosed medical conditions for vaccine.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ bleeding disorder eg, hemophilia & thrombocytopenia; on anticoagulant therapy. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Tenderness, pain, erythema/redness, induration/swelling; myalgia, fatigue/malaise, headache, diarrhea, vomiting, whining/annoyed, somnolence/exhausted, fever, arthralgia. Nasopharyngitis, URTI, rhinorrhea, cough, oropharyngeal pain, resp disorder, allergic rhinitis; pyrexia, flu-like illness; rash; dizziness; acute sinusitis, tonsillitis, tracheobronchitis, bronchitis; gastritis; contusion, skin abrasion, thermal burn.
Drug Interactions
Immunological response may be affected w/ immunosuppressive therapy (eg, RT, antimetabolic, alkylating & cytotoxic agent, & supraphysiological corticosteroid doses) or immunodeficiency. False +ve response in serum test after flu vaccination. Possible increase in severity of adverse effects w/ other vaccines.
