Levofloxacin
Indications/Uses
External bacterial ocular infections in patients ≥1 yr caused by levofloxacin-susceptible microorganisms.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Instill 1-2 drops in the affected eye(s) every 2 hr (max: 8 times daily) for the 1st 2 days & then qid on days 3-5. Treatment duration: 5 days.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to levofloxacin or other quinolones.
Special Precautions
Discontinue use if allergic reaction occurs. Do not inj subconjunctivally or introduce directly into the anterior chamber of the eye. Discontinue therapy at 1st sign of tendon inflammation & rupture particularly in older patients and those treated concurrently w/ corticosteroids. Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms including fungi; discontinue use & institute alternative therapy if infection worsens or fails to improve w/in a reasonable period. Advise patients w/ external bacterial ocular infections not to wear contact lenses. Remove contact lenses prior to instillation & reinsert 15 min after administration. Minor influence on the ability to drive & use machines. Pregnancy & lactation. Not recommended for use in childn <1 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Ocular burning, decreased vision, mucous strand.
