Mode of Administration: Administration: The route of administration depends on the condition being treated and the response of the patient. Methylprednisolone sodium succinate may be administered by intravenous (IV) injection or infusion, or by intramuscular (IM) injection. The preferred method for initial emergency use is IV injection.
Rate of administration: Rate dependent upon dose. Do not administer large doses IV push. Severe adverse effects have been reported in patients receiving large doses (>500 mg) over <10 minutes. Administer large doses over at least 30 minutes.
To avoid compatibility and stability problems, it is recommended that methylprednisolone sodium succinate be administered separately from other drugs whenever possible, as either IV push, through an IV medication chamber, or as an IV "piggy-back" solution.
