Indications/Uses
Rh(D) -ve persons after incompatible transfusions of Rh(D) +ve blood or other products containing RBC. Prevention of Rh(D) immunisation in Rh(D) -ve women during pregnancy/delivery of Rh(D) +ve baby, abortion/threatened abortion, ectopic pregnancy or hydatidiform mole, & transplacental haemorrhage resulting from antepartum haemorrhage, amniocentesis, chorionic biopsy or obstet manipulative procedures (eg, external version or abdominal trauma).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Slow IM Following transfusion of Rh-incompatible blood 500-1,250 IU per 10 mL of transfused blood over a period of several days. Postpartum prophylaxis 1,000-1,500 IU given to the mother as soon as possible after delivery but not later than 72 hr postpartum. Antepartum & postpartum prophylaxis Initially 1,000-1,500 IU in the 28th wk of pregnancy, then same dose w/in 72 hr after delivery if newborn is Rh(D) +ve. After interruption of pregnancy, extrauterine pregnancy or hydatidiform mole: Before the 12th wk of pregnancy 600-750 IU. After the 12th wk of pregnancy or after amniocentesis or chorion biopsy 1,250-1,500 IU. Doses are to be given w/in 72 hr of event or intervention.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Discontinue administration immediately if symptoms of allergic or anaphylactic type reactions occur. Not to be given by IV. Not for use in Rh(D) +ve individuals. Potential for development of IgA Abs & anaphylactic reactions in lgA deficient individuals. Possibility of passing on infection. Observe patients for at least 20 min after administration. Not to be given to newborn infant.
Adverse Reactions
Local pain & tenderness at inj site. Fever, malaise, headache, cutaneous reactions & chills.
Drug Interactions
Impaired efficacy of live attenuated virus vaccine eg, MMR.
