Purified tetanus toxoid

Indications/Uses

Active immunization to produce Ab against tetanus & prevention of neonatal tetanus by immunizing women of childbearing age.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Shake vaccine before use to homogenize susp. Primary immunization 2 doses of 0.5 mL IM/SC at least 4 wk apart followed by 3rd dose 6 mth after 2nd dose. Maintenance immunization of childbearing women Recommended dose: 5 doses. 4th dose should be given at least 1 yr after 3rd dose, & 5th dose at least 1 yr after 4th dose.

Contraindications

Severe reaction to previous dose; hypersensitivity to vaccine component.

Special Precautions

Defer immunization during the cause of any febrile illness or acute infection. Minor febrile illness such as mild URTI is not usually reason to defer immunization.

Adverse Reactions

Rare & mild. Temporary tenderness & redness at inj site & occasional fever. Acute allergic reactions, dyspnea, urticaria, angioneurotic oedema, anaphylactic & acute reaction.
