Full Prescribing Info
Contents
Antazoline hydrochloride, tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride.
Description
Each mL contains Antazoline Hydrochloride 0.5 mg, Tetrahydrozoline Hydrochloride (INN: Tetryzoline HCl) 0.4 mg, Preservative: Benzalkonium Chloride 0.1 mg.
Action
Pharmacology: Antazoline, the antiallergic active substances in ANTAZALLERGE (Eye Drops) is responsible for competitive blocking of the H1 receptors and thus reduces the following effects of the histamine released in the tissue: increase in permeability and expansion of the capillaries and, to a certain extent contraction of smooth muscles.
Tetrahydrozoline acts as a vasoconstrictor and relieves irritation and swelling.
Because of these properties, ANTAZALLERGE (Eye Drops) is suitable for the treatment of allergic symptoms which are mainly induced by the release of histamine.
Tear secretion is slightly reduced while pupil diameter is slightly dilated.
Pharmacokinetics: Like all α-sympathomimetics, Tetrahydrozoline is absorbed systemically via the blood vessels. However, after topical administration of ANTAZALLERGE (Eye Drops) in the eye, the amounts absorbed are extremely small. H1 antihistamines are generally absorbed rapidly and readily.
Indications/Uses
Irritant conjunctivitis, allergic conjunctivitis, particularly hay fever conjunctivitis and venal conjunctivitis.
