Amphotericin B
Indications/Uses
Progressive, potentially life-threatening fungal infections caused by Candida sp, Aspergillus sp, Cryptococcus neoformans, Mucor sp, Rhodotorula sp, Absidia sp, Blastomyces dermatitidis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
0.5-1 mg/kg/day by slow IV infusion. Max: 1.5 mg/kg/day.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Regular monitoring of renal & liver function, serum electrolytes (especially Mg & K), blood counts & Hb conc. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Nephrotoxicity, anemia, infusion related events & phlebitis.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ anti-bacterials, immunosuppressants, parenteral pentamidine, antineoplastics & diuretics. May enhance effects of neuromuscular blocking agents & increase toxicity of digitalis glycosides. May enhance depletion of K & immunosuppresive effects w/ corticosteroids. Procaine HCl & lidocaine HCl, ranitidine HCl, antihistamines & vit.
