Clindamycin (S.O.S) is a white homogenous solution.
Each mL contains: Clindamycin (as Phosphate), USP 10 mg.
Antibacterial (Lincosamide).
Pharmacology: Pharmacodynamics: Clindamycin Phosphate is the most widely prescribed topical antibiotic which has been used to help treat pimples/acne for more than 20 years. It has in-vivo activity against all isolates of Propionibacterium acnes. Clindamycin Phosphate is a water soluble ester of the semi-synthetic antibiotic produced by a 7(S)-chloro substitution of the 7(R)-hydroxyl group of the parent antibiotic lincomycin. It is primarily bacteriostatic antibiotic used chiefly in the treatment of some serious infections, notably due to Bacteroides fragilis, and in some staphylococcal and streptococcal infections. It has good activity against a wide range of anaerobic bacteria especially against Gram-positive aerobes. Clindamycin binds to the 50S ribosomal sub-units of susceptible bacteria and prevents elongation of peptide chains by interfering peptidyl transfer, thereby suppressing protein synthesis.
Pharmacokinetics: Small amounts of clindamycin may be absorbed after topical application to the skin; bioavailability from topical preparations of the hydrochloride and phosphate has been reported to be about 7.5% and 2%, respectively. Clindamycin undergoes metabolism, presumably in the liver, to the active N-demethyl and sulfoxide metabolites, and also to some inactive metabolites. About 10% of a dose is excreted in the urine as active drug or metabolites and about 4% in the faeces; the remainder is excreted as inactive metabolites. Excretion is slow and takes place over several days. It is not effectively removed from the blood by dialysis.
Clindamycin 1% Topical Solution with Vitamin E is a topical antibiotic which contains an antioxidant used in treatment of pimple (acne vulgaris). The combination of antibiotic and Vitamin E's natural skin repairing substance is an innovation that can prevent, heal pimples/acne, skin lesions and scarring.
Apply topically only a thin portion on the affected area 1-2 times a day in the morning or evening depending on the severity of the acne, or as prescribed by the physician. Natural skin care treatment may help lessen the effects of acne like cleaning the skin gently with soap and water daily at least twice a day. Use steam or warm, moist compress to open clogged pores.
In case of overdosage, no specific treatment is indicated. The serum biological half-life of lincomycin is 2-4 hours. Clindamycin cannot readily be removed from blood by dialysis or peritoneal dialysis. If an allergic adverse reaction occurs, therapy should be with the usual emergency treatments, including corticosteroids, adrenaline and antihistamines.
It is contraindicated in those individuals who have shown hypersensitivity to lincomycin. It is also contraindicated in those having a history of regional enteritis, ulcerative colitis, pseudomembranous colitis, or antibiotic-associated colitis.
Clindamycin 1% Topical Solution with Vitamin E is for dermatological use only. Concomitant topical pimple/acne therapy should be used with caution because of the possible cumulative irritancy effect that may occur, especially with the use of peeling, desquamating, or abrasive agents. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Use of topical formulation of Clindamycin results in absorption of the antibiotic from the skin surface, and has reported usually of diarrhea and colitis.
Most topical preparations do not have a pregnancy category as systematic absorption is generally considered to be minimal unless use is extensive, intensive or prolonged.
Category C: Either studies in animals have revealed adverse effects on the fetus (teratogenic or embryocidal or other) and there are no controlled studies in women or studies in women and animals are not available. Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to fetus.
Rare instances of skin redness, peeling, dryness and a mild burning sensation have been reported.
Clindamycin Topical Solution has no noted minor, moderate, serious and severe interactions with any other drugs.
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C. Protect from direct sunlight. Shake well before using.
D10AF01 - clindamycin ; Belongs to the class of topical antiinfective preparations used in the treatment of acne.
