Description
Pelargonium sidoides DC. Root (PELARGO) capsule is a light reddish brown fine powder with white speckles enclosed in a vegetable capsule with white body and cap.
Each capsule of Pelargonium sidoides DC. Root contains 20 mg of powdered Pelargonium root.
Pelargonium sidoides DC., also known as Umckaloabo, is a small perennial herb with tuberous rhizomes (roots), rounded to heart-shaped slightly silky leaves on long petioles, and small tubular flowers that are dark maroon to almost black, which are found mainly in eastern parts of southern Africa.
In Africa, Pelargonium sidoides DC. has been used for centuries in traditional medicine. Its roots are used mainly for treating respiratory system diseases. The European Medicines Agency's "Community herbal monograph on Pelargonium sidoides DC. and/or Pelargonium reniforme Curt., radix" lists it as a traditional herbal medicinal product based upon long-standing use for the symptomatic treatment of the common cold.
