Meclozine is used to treat or prevent nausea and vomiting associated with motion sickness (unpleasant feeling when you're travelling).
This medicine may also be used to treat vertigo (dizziness with sensations of spinning).
Take Meclozine exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
You may take this medicine with or without food.
Meclozine is available as a conventional or chewable tablet.
If you are taking the conventional tablet, swallow it whole with a glass of water.
If you are taking the chewable tablet, it should be chewed thoroughly before swallowing.
For the prevention of motion sickness, it should be taken the night before or 1 hour before the travel.
You may stop taking Meclozine when you do not feel nauseous, have spinning sensations, or the urge to vomit.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- asthma
- increased pressure in the eye
- enlarged prostate gland
- blocked stomach outlet
- kidney disease
- liver disease
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Be sure to check with your doctor or pharmacist before giving Meclozine to a child or the elderly. Children and elderly people may be more sensitive to the side effects.
Individual's genetic traits are unique from each other. Researchers say that certain genetic traits can affect the effectiveness or enhance the side effects of this medicine. Though not routinely done, in some exceptional cases, your doctor may advise you to undergo genetic testing to check if this medicine is best suited for you.
Meclozine may cause drowsiness. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.
Other side effects include any of the following: headache, tiredness, vomiting, and dry mouth.
Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor quickly if you experience any of the following:
- inability to completely empty the bladder when urinating
- having trouble remembering or recalling things
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
- medicines that cause drowsiness or affect your concentration
- medicines for epilepsy (fits or seizures)
- certain medicines to treat depression
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Meclozine.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements, and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol. Alcohol intake may worsen the drowsiness caused by Meclozine.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
