Tramadol HCl
Indications/Uses
Management of severe acute or chronic pain & pain during or following diagnostic or surgical procedures.
Dosage/Direction for Use
50 mg or 100 mg every 4-6 hr. Max daily dose: Not to exceed >400 mg. Patient >75 yr Max daily dose: Not to exceed 300 mg. Patient w/ renal impairment 50 mg-100 mg every 12 hr. Patient w/ liver cirrhosis 50 mg every 12 hr.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Cases of acute intoxication w/ alcohol, sedatives, hypnotics, tranquilizers, other centrally acting analgesics, opioids or psychotropic drugs.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ epilepsy, & those at risk of seizures; increased ICP, head injury, acute abdominal conditions & those dependent on opioids. Use w/ caution & in reduced doses in patients receiving CNS depressants eg, anaesth agents, phenothiazines, tranquilizers, sedative hypnotics, opioids. Concomitant use w/ MAOIs, neuroleptics, or drugs that lower seizure threshold. Use w/ caution w/ anaesth agents or alcohol to avoid risk of resp depression. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Anorexia, flatulence, vasodilation, orthostatic hypotension, syncope, tachycardia, palpitations, urinary retention, visual & coordination disturbances, anxiety, confusion, euphoria, nervousness, allergic reactions, skin rashes, urticaria & wt loss.
Drug Interactions
Lowered plasma conc & t1/2 w/ drugs that induce hepatic enzymes eg, carbamazepine. May enhance sedative effects of CNS depressants. May increase risk of seizures w/ MAOIs & neuroleptics.
