Contents
Prednisolone acetate
Indications/Uses
Short-term treatment of steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions of the eye, after excluding presence of viral, fungal & bacterial pathogens in adults.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Instill 1-2 drops in the infected eye(s) bid-qid.
Contraindications
Viral diseases of cornea & conjunctiva. Mycobacterial infection of the eye.
Special Precautions
Monitor IOP if medication is used for ≥10 days. Prolonged use may result in glaucoma w/ damage to the optic nerve, defects in visual acuity & fields of vision, & in posterior subcapsular cataract formation. Concomitant use of antibacterial agent is mandatory in cases of bacterial infections. Should be used during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus. Discontinue nursing during treatment or discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the drug to the mother. Safety & effectiveness in ped patients have not been established.
Adverse Reactions
IOP elevation w/ possible development of glaucoma & infrequent optic nerve damage, & posterior subcapsular cataract formation.
Drug Interactions
Increased risk of systemic side effects w/ CYP3A4 inhibitors, including cobicistat-containing products.
