Ascorbic acid (vit C) 500 mg (as Na ascorbate 562.43 mg), Zn 10 mg (as Zn sulfate monohydrate 27.5 mg), colecalciferol (vit D3) 1,000 IU
Indications/Uses
Treatment & prevention of vit C, Zn, & vit D deficiencies. Maintenance & support of immune system function.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ hypervitaminosis D, nephrolithiasis, diseases or conditions resulting in hypercalcemia, hypercalciuria & severe kidney impairment.
Special Precautions
Na-restricted diet. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Headache; abdominal cramps; diarrhea; nausea, vomiting. Ascorbic acid: Hemolysis (after large doses in patients w/ G6PD deficiency); delayed-type allergic response; insomnia, sleepiness; flushing; flatulent distention, gastric discomfort, heartburn, transient colic; increased urination (mild), kidney stone formation. Zn: Anemia, blood cell microcytosis, neutropenia; disturbance of Cu metabolism, loss of appetite, reduced Fe function; drowsiness; metallic taste; abdominal pain, dyspepsia, gastritis, GI discomfort/irritation. Colecalciferol: Hypercalcemia; cardiac arrhythmia; constipation; hypercalciuria, nephrolithiasis, nocturia, polyuria; polydipsia.
Drug Interactions
Ascorbic acid: Increased risk of Al toxicity w/ antacids. Increased urinary excretion w/ aspirin. May interfere w/ alcohol-disulfiram reaction in prolonged administration of large doses (1 g daily). Decreased fluphenazine plasma level. Concomitant administration of vit C >200 mg per elemental Fe 30 mg increases absorption of Fe from the GIT. Increases apparent t½ of paracetamol. Zn: Decreases absorption of antibiotics eg, quinolones & tetracyclines. Decreased absorption of both Zn & bisphosphonate. Additive effects are possible w/ cholesterol medicines. Inhibits the absorption of Cu & Fe. Reduces absorption of penicillamine. Reduced absorption w/ caffeine, tea, or foods containing high levels of P, Ca, phytates, or folic acid. Colecalciferol: Decreased effect w/ anticonvulsants, cimetidine & thiazides. Reduced absorption w/ bile acid sequestrants (eg, cholestyramine & colestipol), mineral oil & orlistat.
