Halobetasol propionate
Indications/Uses
Relief of inflammatory & pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply a thin layer into the affected area once daily or bid. Limit treatment to 2 wk. Max: 50 g/wk.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Skin TB, chicken pox, herpes simplex, measles, vaccinia, perioral dermatitis, acne rosacea, syphilitic skin lesions & untreated bacterial, fungal, or viral skin lesions. Not recommended for acne vulgaris. Not recommended in childn <12 yr.
Special Precautions
Not for ophth, oral or intravag use. Do not use w/ occlusive dressings. Do not use in the treatment of rosacea or perioral dermatitis, & on the face, groin, or in the axillae. Avoid contact w/ eyes. Discontinue use & institute appropriate therapy if irritation develops. Systemic absorption can produce reversible hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis suppression w/ potential for glucocorticosteroid insufficiency after w/drawal of treatment; manifestations of Cushing's syndrome, hyperglycemia, & glucosuria while on treatment. Use appropriate antifungal or antibacterial agent if concomitant skin infections are present or develop. Do not use extensively, in large amounts, or for protracted periods in pregnant patients or in patients who are planning to become pregnant. Caution when administering to a nursing woman.
