Clotrimazole
Indications/Uses
All dermatomycoses due to moulds, other fungi (eg, Trichophyton spp) & yeasts (eg, Candida spp) including ringworm (tinea) infections (eg, athlete's foot), paronychia, pityriasis versicolor, erythrasma & intertrigo. Skin diseases showing secondary infection w/ these fungi. Candidal nappy rash, vulvitis & balanitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Apply thinly & evenly to affected area bid or tid & rub in gently. Dermatophyte infection Duration: At least 1 mth. Candidal infection Duration: At least 2 wk.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Not to be used to treat nail or scalp infections.
Special Precautions
Contains cetostearyl alcohol which may cause local skin reactions eg, contact dermatitis. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Allergic reaction (syncope, hypotension, dyspnea, urticaria); blisters, discomfort/pain, oedema, erythema, irritation, peeling/exfoliation, pruritus, rash, stinging/burning.
Drug Interactions
May cause damage to latex contraceptives & consequently may reduce their effectiveness.
