Ciprofloxacin

Indications/Uses

Resp tract, ENT, skin & soft tissue, GIT, intra-abdominal, gynaecological, bone & joint, severe systemic infections; UTI; gonorrhoea.

Dosage/Direction for Use

250-500 mg bid for 5-7 days. Gonorrhea 500 mg as single dose.

Administration

May be taken with or without food: Preferably taken 2 hr after meals.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or other quinolones. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn & adolescents.

Special Precautions

Epileptics or history of CNS disorders (eg, lowered convulsion threshold, previous history of convulsion, reduced cerebral blood flow, altered brain structure or stroke). Do not use w/ antacid prep containing Mg or Al hydroxide. Maintain well hydration to prevent crystalluria. Avoid excessive urine alkalinisation. Concomitant use w/ theophylline.

Adverse Reactions

Diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain & nausea, headache, restlessness, dizziness; increased hepatic enzyme levels.
