Pantoprazole Na sesquihydrate
Indications/Uses
GERD, peptic ulcer, & pathological hypersecretory states eg, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Prophylaxis of NSAID-associated ulceration.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV Adult Pathological hypersecretion associated w/ Zollinger-Ellison syndrome 80 mg every 12 hr. Adjust dosing frequency to individual patient needs based on acid output measurements. 80 mg every 8 hr in patient who needs higher dosage. Max: 240 mg daily.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Hepatic effects eg, mild, transient transaminase elevations. Symptomatic response to therapy does not preclude presence of gastric malignancy. Consider Zn supplementation in patients prone to Zn deficiency. Co-administration w/ other EDTA-containing IV products. Reports of false +ve urine screening tests for tetrahydrocannabinol in patients receiving PPIs. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Decide whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue drug, taking into account the benefit of drug to mother. Safety & effectiveness have not been established in ped patients.
