Indications/Uses
Treatment & control of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men w/ enlarged prostate to cause regression of the enlarged prostate, improve urinary flow & alleviate symptoms associated w/ BPH; reduce the risk of acute urinary retention; reduce the need for surgery including transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) & prostatectomy.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Women who are or may potentially be pregnant. Childn.
Special Precautions
Control of prostatic hyperplasia in asymptomatic patients. Shown to cause abnormalities of the external genitalia in male offspring. Discontinue therapy when partner is or may become pregnant. May interfere w/ PSA determinations. Increased risk of high-grade prostate cancer. Perform evaluation for other urological conditions. Inform patients on possibility of reduced vol of ejaculate during treatment. Breast cancer in men. Women. Childn & infant.
Adverse Reactions
Palpitation, hypotension, postural hypotension. Peripheral edema. Hypersensitivity. Increased hepatic enzymes. Ejaculation disorders, breast enlargement/gynecomastia, sexual function disorder, breast pain/tenderness, impotence, testicular pain, erectile dysfunction, male breast cancer, prostate cancer. Decreased libido, dizziness, somnolence, depression. Asthenia, headache. Rhinitis, dyspnea. Abdominal pain, diarrhea, flatulence & nausea. Lens changes or opacities.
