Pregnancy: Pregnant women should only take aspirin if clearly needed. Avoid use during the third trimester of pregnancy because of aspirin's known effect on the fetal cardiovascular system (i.e., closure of the ductus arteriosus).
Lactation: Breastfeeding mothers should avoid using aspirin because salicylate is excreted in breast milk. Use of high doses may lead to rashes, platelet abnormalities, and bleeding in breastfed infants.
