Full Prescribing Info
Contents
Guaifenesin, bromhexine hydrochloride, salbutamol sulfate.
Description
Clear, orange syrup with orange flavor.
Each 10 mL contains: Guaifenesin, USP 100 mg, Bromhexine Hydrochloride 4 mg, Salbutamol (as sulfate) 2 mg.
Action
Expectorant, mucolytic, bronchodilator.
Pharmacology: Pharmacodynamics and Pharmacokinetics: Guaifenesin + Bromhexine HCl + Salbutamol (as sulfate) (Asfrenon-BR) through the rational combination offers effective and fast relief in various bronchopulmonary disorders.
Salbutamol is selective Beta-2-adrenergic receptor agonist giving efficient bronchodilation with longer duration of action compared to other bronchodilators. The negligible cardiac stimulation from salbutamol offers considerable therapeutic advantage.
Bromhexine hydrochloride decreases the viscosity of sputum and increases mucocilliary clearance. This helps in various respiratory conditions.
Guaifenesin helps loosen and clear the bronchial passages of thickened mucus and aids expectoration.
Indications/Uses
Guaifenesin + Bromhexine HCl + Salbutamol sulfate (Asfrenon-BR) will be useful in the following disorders such as bronchial asthma, emphysema, atelectasis, acute and chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, pulmonary tuberculosis, whooping cough, pneumonia and other bronchospastic conditions.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adults: 10 mL (2 teaspoonful) 3 times daily.
Children: 6-12 years old: 5 mL to 10 mL (1-2 teaspoonful) 3 times daily.
Below 6 years old: 5 mL (1 teaspoonful) 3 times daily. Or as prescribed by the physician. The previous doses may have to be raised in some patients to get the desired effects.
Overdosage
Symptoms: Tachycardia (Heart rate to 200 bpm), ventricular flutter, reducing blood pressure, increased cardiac output, hypoxemia, acidosis, hypokalemia, hyperglycemia muscle tremors, headache, agitation, hallucinations and convulsions.
Treatment: Removal of preparation and holding of symptomatic therapy of beta-blockers (selective) in patients with bronchial asthma requires extreme caution because of the risk of severe bronchospasm reaction.
Special Precautions
Guaifenesin + Bromhexine HCl + Salbutamol (as sulfate) (Asfrenon-BR) should be used with caution in patients of hyperthyroidism, diabetes mellitus, serious cardiovascular disorders, hypertension and peptic ulcer.
Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregnancy: lt shows adverse effects on the fetus and hence, the use of this medicine in pregnant women is not advisable.
Lactation: Effects of this medicine on the quality and quantity of the breastmilk are unknown. Hence, the use of the medicine should be avoided by ladies during their lactation period.
Adverse Reactions
Skeletal System: Skeletal muscle tremor particularly of hands.
Muscular System: Muscle cramps are seen occasionally.
Cardiovascular System: Palpitaions while slight tachycardia and peripheral vasodilation have been reported after large doses.
Nervous System: Headache has been reported in large doses.
Drug Interactions
With simultaneous use of Albuterol (Salbutamol) with not cardioselective beta-blockers may suppress mutual therapeutic effects; with theophylline increases the risk of tachycardia and arrythmia, in particular, supraventricular extrasystoles.
With simultaneous use of Salbutamol Sulfate and Xantine derivatives, SCS or diuretics increase the risk of hypokalemia.
Storage
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
Protect from light.
