Ascorbic acid, zinc.
Description
Ascozin: Light orange, uniformly spotted, circular, biconvex, plain on both sides.
Ascozin tablet contains 500 mg of Ascorbic acid and 15 mg of zinc.
Ascozin Max: Light orange to orange color, round shape mottled tablets, plain on both sides.
Ascozin Max Effervescent tablet contains 1000 mg of Ascorbic Acid and 10 mg of zinc.
Action
Ascozin tablet or Ascozin Max effervescent tablet contains the active substance ascorbic acid and zinc which are vitamins and minerals used to treat their deficiency including the prevention and treatment of scurvy.
Indications/Uses
Ascozin: For the prevention and treatment of Vitamin C and Zinc deficiencies.
Ascozin Max: Ascorbic Acid + Zinc (Ascozin Max) effervescent tablet is indicated for treatment of vitamin C and zinc deficiency.
Dosage/Direction for Use
What should the patient do if they miss a dose: If the patient misses a treatment with Ascozin tablet or Ascozin Max Effervescent tablet, they should use it as soon as they remember.
Do not use the tablet twice to make up for a missed treatment.
If the patient has any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask the doctor or pharmacist.
Ascozin: The recommended dose is for: Adults, take 1-2 chewable tablets once a day or as prescribed by the physician.
Ascozin Max: Always use this medicine exactly as the doctor has told. Check with the doctor or pharmacist if the patient is not sure.
The recommended dose is for: Adults and children over 12 years: 1 effervescent tablet a day dissolved in a glass of water (200 mL).
Overdosage
Ascozin: Signs and symptoms of overdose are nausea, vomiting, abdominal spasm, diarrhea; it is possible allergic reaction, decreased function of kidney, blood pressure increase, hyperexcitability, sleep disturbance.
What to do when the patient has taken more than the recommended dosage: In the event of overdose, supportive and symptomatic measures should be carried out.

Contraindications
Do not use if: Hypersensitivity to ascorbic acid.
Ascozin: Do not use if: Thrombophlebitis.
Inclination to thrombosis.
Diabetes.
Children less than 18 years old.
Ascozin Max: Do not use if: Suffering from or having a history of kidney stones.
Suffering from oxalate kidney stones or oxaluria.
Suffering from severe renal insufficiency or renal failure and also if on dialysis.
Suffering from hemochromatosis (hereditary disorder in which iron salts are deposited in the tissues).
Special Precautions
Ascozin: If Ascozin is used over a prolonged period and withdrawn too rapidly there is possibility that deficiency may occur.
Ascozin Max: If Ascozin Max Effervescent is taken by people who are suffering from glucose-6-phosphatase deficiency, its overdose in this patient population has been associated with hemolytic anemia.
Use In Pregnancy & Lactation
If the patient is pregnant or breast-feeding, think that they may be pregnant or planning to have a baby, ask the doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Adverse Reactions
Ascozin: Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following have been reported if the patient has taken too high of a dose: Nausea, vomiting, heartburn, diarrhea, hyperexcitability, headache. Formation of uric acid, cysteine or oxalate concretions, allergic reactions.
Patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency taking this medicine may develop a type of anaemia (symptoms include headache, tiredness, shortness of breath, jaundice).
Ascozin Max: Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following have been reported: diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal and abdominal pain, allergic reaction, anaphylactic reaction, anaphylactic shock.
Drug Interactions
Tell the doctor or pharmacist if the patient is taking, or has recently taken, any regular medication on prescription or over the counter products.
Ascozin tablets and Ascozin Max Effervescent tablets can affect some other medicines the patient may be taking. Make sure the doctor or pharmacist knows if the patient is taking an iron preparation, called desferrioxamine.
Ascozin Max: Make sure the doctor or pharmacist knows if the patient is taking cyclosporine or warfarin. Also zinc can interfere with tetracycline antibiotics, quinolone antibiotics, penicillamine.
Storage
Store at temperatures not exceeding 30°C.
Ascozin: As the Ascorbic acid & Zinc are moisture & temperature sensitive, store the tablet in its original package to protect from moisture and direct sunlight.
Strip must be opened to take out the tablets prior to use only. Do not put the tablets in pill box.
Ascozin Max: Protect from moisture.

When should you consult your doctor: Consult your doctor: If you experience any first sign of any adverse drug reaction.
If you accidentally take more than the recommended dosage.
