Live MMR virus vaccine
Indications/Uses
Simultaneous vaccination against measles, mumps & rubella in individuals ≥12 mth.
Dosage/Direction for Use
0.5 mL SC into the outer aspect of the upper arm. Not to be given concurrently w/ Ig. Recommended vaccination schedule Individual 1st vaccinated at ≥12 mth should be revaccinated at 4-6 yr or 11-12 yr. Measles outbreak schedule Infant vaccinated between 6-12 mth should receive 2nd dose at 15 mth, followed by revaccination at 4-6 yr or 11-12 yr.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity including gelatin. Anaphylactic or anaphylactoid reactions to neomycin. Febrile resp illness or other active febrile infection. Active untreated TB. Patients receiving immunosuppressive therapy. Blood dyscrasias, leukemia, lymphomas of any type, other malignant neoplasms affecting bone marrow or lymphatic systems. Primary & acquired immunodeficiency states including immunosuppressed patients in association w/ AIDS or other clinical manifestations of infection w/ HIV; cellular immune deficiencies; hypo- & dysgammaglobulinemic states. Severely immunocompromised individuals inadvertently vaccinated w/ measles-containing vaccine. Family history of congenital or hereditary immunodeficiency until immune competence of potential vaccine recipient is demonstrated. Pregnancy. Avoid pregnancy for 1 mth following vaccination.
Special Precautions
Not to be inj IV. History of anaphylactic, anaphylactoid or other immediate reactions subsequent to egg ingestion. Patients w/ individual or family histories of convulsion, history of cerebral injury or other condition in which stress due to fever should be avoided. Current thrombocytopenia. May result in a temporary depression of tuberculin skin sensitivity. HIV-infected or immunosuppressed patients. Not recommended in concurrent use w/ DTP or oral poliovirus vaccines. Not to be used during pregnancy. Lactation. Infants <12 mth.
Adverse Reactions
Inj site burning &/or stinging of short duration.
Drug Interactions
Interfered immune response w/ Ig. Defer vaccination for ≥3 mth following human Ig & blood or plasma transfusions.
