Menotrophin

Indications/Uses

Stimulation of follicle growth in females w/ hypo- or normogonadotrophic ovarian insufficiency & in combination w/ hCG to stimulate spermatogenesis in males w/ hypo- or normogonadotrophic hypogonadism.

Dosage/Direction for Use

IM/SC Female Initially 75-150 IU daily, may be slowly increased until rise in estradiol secretion & follicle growth is evident. Induce ovulation hCG 5,000-10,000 IU as IM inj 1-2 days after administration. Male Initially 1,000 IU as 3 repeat inj + hCG 3,000 IU wkly until normal testosterone serum level is reached, then administer additional 75-150 IU as 3 repeat IM inj wkly for at least 3 or 4 mth.

Overdosage

Contraindications

Ovaries or cysts enlargement not caused by PCOS; gynaecological bleeding of unknown cause; uterus, ovaries & breasts tumours. Prostate & testicular tumours.

Special Precautions

Discontinue use if unintentional hyperstimulation occurs. Exclude primary ovarian failure prior to treatment. Perform ultrasound & oestradiol measurement prior to & at regular intervals during treatment. Exclude & treat thyroid gland & suprarenal gland cortex dysfunction, hyperprolactinaemia, pituitary or hypothalamic gland tumours prior to initiation. Tubal disease/occlusion. Ectopic pregnancy; unintentional multiple pregnancies. Not to be given during pregnancy & lactation.
