Before use: Tell a doctor or pharmacist if the patient: is allergic to iodine or povidone; has a thyroid problem; is pregnant or planning a pregnancy; received radioactive iodine treatments within the last 4 weeks; use for children between 1 to 2 years of age.
While using it: Things the patient must do: Use BETADINE PVPI Antiseptic Liquid 10% w/v exactly as directed by the doctor or pharmacist.
Tell all the doctors and pharmacists involved in the treatment that the patient is using BETADINE PVPI Antiseptic Liquid 10% w/v.
Tell a doctor immediately if the patient becomes pregnant while using this PVPI Antiseptic Liquid.
Tell a doctor if symptoms do not improve or worsen or patient has an allergy or skin irritation such as redness, small blisters, itching, or a rash which may occur immediately.
Things the patient must not do: Do not use it together with alkali, hydrogen peroxide, taurolidine, tannic acid, acetylsalicylic acid, all silver, bismuth, octenidine and mercury salts.
Things to be careful of: BETADINE PVPI Antiseptic Liquid 10% w/v is intended FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY and not for use on extensive body areas. Application to large areas of broken skin should be avoided as excessive absorption of iodine may occur. This medication should not be used over a long period of time.
Use of this preparation may interfere with tests of thyroid function. If symptoms occur suggesting changes in thyroid function, these should be investigated.
In patients with impaired kidney function, blood levels of iodine should be monitored.
If accidentally swallowed or comes in contact with the eyes, seek medical advice immediately.
BETADINE PVPI Antiseptic Liquid 10% w/v does not affect the ability to drive or use machinery.
