Indications/Uses
Schizophrenia & related psychotic disorders in adults & adolescents 15-17 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Recommended starting & target dose: 10 or 15 mg/day. Increase dose only after 2 wk if needed. Max dose: 30 mg/day. Adolescent 15-17 yr Initially 2 mg/day, titrated to 5 mg/day after 2 days & to target dose of 10 mg/day after 2 additional days. Subsequently increase dose in 5 mg/day increments if needed & as tolerated. Max dose: 30 mg/day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole. Do not crush/cut.
Special Precautions
Consider using an appropriate strength of other brands for doses not multiple of 2 mg. Consider dose reduction or discontinuation if patient develops impulsive or compulsive behaviours (eg, pathological gambling, compulsive sexual urges, compulsive shopping, binge or compulsive eating). Risk of extrapyramidal &/or w/drawal symptoms following delivery in neonates exposed to antipsychotic drugs during the 3rd trimester of pregnancy. Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to fetus. Not indicated for treatment of schizophrenia in adolescents <15 yr. Periodically re-evaluate long-term usefulness when elected to use for extended periods in adolescents w/ schizophrenia. Not indicated in the elderly ≥65 yr w/ dementia.
