5% solution: This medicine is recommended in the treatment of certain types of alopecia (excessive hair loss), called androgenetic alopecia, of moderate intensity, in men. It is not recommended in women, due to the high frequency of hypertrichosis (abnormal hair growth) in areas remote from the sites of application.
Dosage: Apply a 1 ml dose on the scalp twice a day, beginning from the centre of the area to be treated.
The total daily dose should not exceed 2 ml, regardless of the surface of the area to be treated.
In any case, this medicine should always be taken exactly as instructed by the doctor.
Method and route of administration: Cutaneous use. External use only.
Wash the hands thoroughly before and after applying the solution.
Apply on perfectly dry hair and scalp.
Do not apply the product on any other part of the body.
Method of application: Depending on the dispensing system used with the bottle.

Frequency of administration: 1 ml application in the morning and 1 ml in the evening. Do not increase the doses, or the number of applications. In any case, this medicine should always be taken exactly as instructed by the doctor.
Duration of treatment: The beginning and the degree of response to the treatment varies according to each patient.
The result is not immediate. The hair loss is stopped and/or the hair starts to grow some time after the beginning of the treatment (approximately 3 or 4 months).
A 2-month course of treatment with 2 applications per day may be necessary before a stimulation of the hair growth process becomes noticeable. The beginning and the degree of response to the treatment varies according to each patient. According to certain observations made, a return to the initial condition would appear within 3 to 4 months if the treatment was discontinued.
Instructions in case of one or several missed doses: Resume treatment according to the normal frequency: 1 application in the morning and 1 application in the evening. Do not use a double dose to make up for forgotten individual doses.
Directions for use: Use a mild shampoo (preferably without silicone).
If intending to shampoo after applying minoxidil, wait for 4 hours before applying the shampoo.
If minoxidil is applied after the shampoo, it is advisable to apply it on a dry scalp. A hair dryer may be used after applying minoxidil, preferably in warm position.
Styling foams, gels or sprays can be used after a minimum of 1 hour after the application of minoxidil.
There is no interaction between minoxidil treatment and permanent waving or dyes but it is preferable to limit such interactions due to their aggression on the hair.
In case of sun exposure after an application of minoxidil, it is recommended to cover the hair.
Symptoms and instructions in case of overdose: Accidental ingestion may cause adverse reactions due to the cardiovascular action of minoxidil. CALL A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY.
MINOXIDIL BAILLEUL should not be used: if the patient is allergic to minoxidil or any of the other ingredients of the solution (see Description); if the patient is under 18 or over 65 years of age; if the patient has lesions on the scalp.
5% solution: MINOXIDIL BAILLEUL should not be used: if the patient has had an intolerance to the 2% solution of minoxidil.
In patients with lesions on the scalp, an increase in the passage of the active substance in the bloodstream is possible (see Contraindications).
In rare cases, a drop in blood pressure, an increased pulse rate or oedemas may occur. The patient must immediately stop the treatment and consult the doctor.
This treatment requires a regular medical monitoring, especially at the beginning of the treatment.
Stop the treatment and consult the doctor in case of red spots or persistent irritation of the scalp.
It is very important to follow the prescribed dosage and method of administration. Do not increase the dose per application or the number of applications. Only apply minoxidil on a healthy scalp. Avoid the application in case of irritation, persistent red spots, inflammation or painful scalp. Do not apply minoxidil with other products used in dermatology or other medicinal products which can irritate the skin.
DO NOT SWALLOW. DO NOT INHALE.
In case of accidental contact with eyes, wounds, or mucous membranes, the solution (which contains ethyl alcohol) may cause burning pains and irritations. Rinse thoroughly with running water.
Do not expose the treated scalp to the sun. Wear suitable protection (e.g.: hat).
A change in the colour and/or texture of the hair was observed in some patients.
The doctor should be informed if the patient has a heart condition.
List of excipients with well-known effects: Propylene glycol, alcohol.
Types of alopecia: Acute alopecia (sudden hair loss over a short period of time) may be diffuse or circumscribed (pelade) and most often has a known cause (aggressive hair care, poor general condition, unbalanced diets, certain medicines, psychic shock, stress). Acute alopecia should not be treated with this medicine.
Chronic alopecia (long term) is almost always diffuse. It is sometimes due to a precise disease (thyroid, metabolic disease) and it should not be treated with this medicine.
Most of the origins of chronic alopecia are not known, and most often they have a hereditary character: it is known as androgenetic alopecia. Only this type of alopecia may be treated with minoxidil.
This product is not effective for all types of alopecia.
Additional information: At the beginning of the treatment, for a short period of time, the patient may experience an increase in the hair loss. These hair strands would have fallen anyway, but they do so more rapidly. It is a normal phenomenon, continue the treatment.
The first hair strands which grow will be soft, downy and not very visible. Little by little, as the patient continues the treatment, they will change and become thicker.
5% solution: Due to the risk of hypertrichosis (abnormal hair growth) in areas remote from the site of application, this medicine should not be used in women.
It is advisable not to use minoxidil during pregnancy. In the same way the use of minoxidil during breast-feeding should be avoided.
5% solution: This medicine is not recommended for women. However, if it is used in women, ask the doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
