Mastitis is the Disease Link 4 of the breast that may or Disease Link 5 not be associated with bacterial infection.
Signs and Disease 6 of mastitis include firm, Disease 7 s, tender, swollen Disease 8 in the affected breast, skin that may appear shiny and tight with red streaks, fever or temperature of >38°C, and axillary pain and swelling from reactive lymphadenopathy, which may be accompanied by headache, myalgia, lethargy, nausea, anxiety, flu-like aching, or systemic illness.
Diagnosis of mastitis is based on clinical evaluation.
Pharmacotherapy includes symptomatic therapy plus antibiotic therapy (eg Flucloxacillin or Dicloxacillin, first-Generation cephalosporins, Clindamycin, Vancomycin or Lincomycin).
