Concomitant use w/ drugs that induce tissue desaturation of ascorbic acid eg, aspirin, nicotine from cigarettes, alcohol, several appetite suppressants, Fe, phenytoin, some anticonvulsants, oestrogen component of OCs & tetracycline. Unexpected renal tubular reabsorption of acidic drugs in large doses. Decreased reabsorption & therapeutic effect w/ basic drugs. Reduced response to oral anticoagulants in large doses. Decreased fluphenazine plasma conc. Interference w/ numerous lab tests based on oxidation-reduction reactions. May worsen Fe toxicity w/ desferrioxamine in patients w/ Fe overload. Reduced absorption & decreased urinary excretion w/ aspirin. Development of potentially fatal encephalopathy w/ Al antacids & oral citrate. Lower serum levels w/ OCs.
