Diazepam
Indications/Uses
Anticonvulsant & anti-anxiety.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Anticonvulsant 5-10 mg IV, may be repeated at 10-15 min interval up to max of 30 mg in 2-4 hr. Anti-anxiety 5-10 mg IM/IV, may be repeated in 3-4 hr.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Acute closed-angle glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, sleep apnea, resp disorders. Severe hepatic impairment.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines. Hypoalbuminemic patients. May affect ability to drive or operate machine or do hazardous activities. Pregnancy & lactation. Not to be used in newborn (4 wk old) due to benzyl alcohol content. Not recommended for continued use of >3 wk in childn <3 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Mental disturbance, drowsiness, amnesia, blurred vision, urinary retention, resp depression, hypotension.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ CNS depressants & alcohol.
