Nicergoline
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic treatment of acute or chronic, peripheral & cerebral vascular disorders eg, dementia associated w/ vascular dementia & Parkinson's disease, mental deterioration eg, cognitive, affective & behavioral disturbances, impaired memory, mood depression; chorio-retinal disorders; balance disorders eg, dizziness & vertigo; tinnitus.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. MI, acute bleeding, severe bradycardia & postural hypotension.
Special Precautions
Avoid concomitant use in patient w/ porphyria. Patients w/ hyperuricemia, history of gout &/or under treatment w/ drugs that might interfere w/ metabolism & excretion of uric acid. Concomitant use w/ antihypertensives especially β-blockers. Pregnancy. Discontinue lactation during treatment.
Adverse Reactions
Confusion, dizziness, insomnia, dry mouth, vertigo, headache, convulsion, irritability; flushing; GI disturbances, hyperacidity, nausea, diarrhea, constipation; hyperuricemia.
Drug Interactions
Potentiated hypotensive effect of antihypertensives.
