Special Precautions
Vaccination should be preceded by a review of the medical history, in particular of serious adverse events after past vaccinations.
As with other vaccines, administration of Pertagen should be postponed in persons suffering from an acute severe febrile illness. The presence of a minor infection is not a contraindication.
The expected immunological response may not be achieved after vaccination of immunosuppressed patients. Nevertheless, vaccination of HIV infected persons, especially pregnant women, or persons with chronic immunodeficiency disorders such as AIDS, is recommended.
As with any vaccines, Pertagen should be administered with caution in persons who experienced high fever (≥40°C) within 48 hours after immunization with any pertussis vaccines without any identifiable causes. Pertagen should be given with caution to persons receiving anticoagulant therapy or persons with thrombocytopenia or any coagulation disorder, because of the risk of bleeding at injection site after intramuscular injection.
The risk-benefit of immunization with Pertagen should be weighed carefully on an individual basis.
As with all injectable vaccines, appropriate medical care should be readily available in case of a rare anaphylactic reaction after vaccination.
Pertagen must not be administered intravascularly.
Syncope (fainting) can occur following, or even before administration of injectable vaccines. Procedures should be in place to prevent fall injuries and manage syncopal reactions.
As with any vaccines, a protective immune response may not be elicited in all vaccinees.
Effects on ability to drive and use machines: Pertagen has no effect on the ability to drive and use machines.
