Perphenazine

Indications/Uses

Antipsychotic in schizophrenia, antiemetic.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Adult 16-64 mg daily, in 2-4 divided doses. Childn >12 yr 6-12 mg, 6-12 yr 6 mg, 1-6 yr 4 mg. To be taken in 3 divided doses.

Administration

Should be taken with food.

Contraindications

Bone marrow depression, comatose states.

Special Precautions

CV or resp disorders, parkinsonism, diabetes, pheochromocytoma, epilepsy, glaucoma. May impair temp regulatory mechanism. Impaired liver or kidney function. Pregnancy, lactation. Debilitated childn. Elderly.

Adverse Reactions

Drowsiness, dependence, antimuscarinic effects, insomnia, depression, convulsions, agitation, tachycardia, postural hypotension, allergic reactions, agranulocytosis, tardive dyskinesia, impaired glucose tolerance.
