Meslon

Meslon: Each film coated tablet contains Diosmin 450 mg, Hesperidin 50 mg.
Meslon 1000: Each film coated tablet contains Diosmin 900 mg, Hesperidin 100 mg.
Note: Tablet scoring is the practice of partitioning a tablet for the ease of administration. Do not divide dose.

Pharmacology: PHARMACODYNAMICS: Diosmin and Hesperidin act on: Venous tone: by inhibiting the breakdown of norepinephrine (noradrenaline) by COMT (catechol-O-methyltransferase).
Noradrenergic activity is thereby prolonged and venous tone increased. The degree of this effect varies in linear relation to the dose administered.
The microcirculation: protection of microvascular permeability via inhibition of adhesion of leukocytes, their intratissue migration, the release of inflammatory mediators and the expression of certain leukocyte (L-selectin) and endothelial (ICAM-1, VCAM-1) adhesion substances initiating the inflammatory events leading to raised microcirculatory venous pressure.
PHARMACOKINETICS: Absorption: After oral administration, Diosmin is well absorbed. Hesperidin is converted to hesperetin by the microflora of the colon, and then, it is absorbed by colonocytes.
Metabolism: The product is highly metabolised, this metabolism is revealed by the presence of different phenol acids in the urine.
Excretion: Excretion is essentially faecal and urinary excretion is on average 14% of the administered quantity.
Elimination Half-life: 11 hours.

This medication is venotonic (improves functional symptoms and edema with increase in venous tone) and a vasculoprotector (improves capillary resistance).
Peripheral venous insufficiency: This medication is recommended for the treatment of heavy, swollen, or restless legs.
Hemorrhoids: This medication is recommended for the treatment of acute signs and symptoms of hemorrhoidal disease.

Meslon: Chronic venous insufficiency: 2 tablets daily.
Acute hemorrhoidal attacks: 6 tablets daily for the first 4 days, then 4 tablets daily for 3 days and 2 tablets thereafter.
Chronic hemorrhoids: 2 tablets daily.
Meslon 1000: Peripheral venous insufficiency: 1 tablet daily in the morning.
Acute hemorrhoidal attack: 3 tablets daily for 4 days, followed by 2 tablets daily over the next 3 days. Patients should strictly comply with doctor's prescription.
Administration: The tablets should be taken at meal times.

OVERDOSE AND TREATMENT: No cases of overdose have been reported.

Hypersensitivity to Diosmin or Hesperidin or any of the excipients.

Acute hemorrhoidal attack: If the hemorrhoid symptoms do not disappear within 15 days, ask the doctor for advice.
Venous circulation disorder: The most effective way of giving this treatment is in combination with a healthy lifestyle. Avoid exposure to the sun, heat, excessive standing and being overweight.
Walking and wearing special support stocking stimulate blood circulation.
If in any doubt, do not hesitate to ask the doctor or the pharmacist for advice.

Pregnancy: There are no or limited amount of data from the use of Diosmin and Hesperidin in pregnant women. Animal studies do not indicate teratogenic effect and no harmful effects have been reported to date in humans.
Lactation: It is unknown whether the active substance/metabolites are excreted in human milk. Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment.
Fertility: Reproductive toxicity studies showed no effect on fertility in male and female rats.

Dermatologic effects: Eczema and Pityriasis Rosea have been reported after oral administration of Diosmin. These effects regressed completely after discontinuation of Diosmin.
Gastrointestinal effects: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, epigastric pain, dyspepsia, diarrhea.
Neurologic effects: Insomnia, drowsiness, vertigo, headache, anxiety, fatigue.
Cardiovascular effects: Hypotension, palpitations.

No cases of drug interaction have been reported.
