Esflurbiprofen
Indications/Uses
Relief of pain & inflammation associated w/ OA.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Apply to affected area once daily. Do not to use >2 patches at once. Max: 2 patches/day.
Contraindications
History of hypersensitivity to esflurbiprofen or flurbiprofen. Peptic ulcer; severe blood abnormality, cardiac dysfunction & HTN; current or previous aspirin-induced asthma. Concomitant use w/ enoxacin hydrate, lomefloxacin, norfloxacin or prulifloxacin. Severe liver & renal disorder. 3rd trimester of pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity. Discontinue use immediately in case of any undesirable skin reaction. Interrupt or discontinue treatment if cutaneous symptoms are observed. Not to be used in patients w/ asthma, acute urticaria, or acute rhinitis, allergy to aspirin or other NSAIDs. Avoid use in patients w/ GI bleeding in stomach, intestines or ulcers. Platelet & CV disorders w/ long-term use. History of peptic ulcer. Patients w/ wasting disease; peptic ulcer resistant to agents eg, misoprostol; current or previous blood abnormality; bleeding tendency; abnormal cardiac function; HTN; bronchial asthma; ulcerative colitis; Crohn's disease. Perform periodic lab tests (eg, urine analysis, blood test & LFT) for long-term use. Avoid use w/ new quinolone antibiotics, other than enoxacin hydrate, lomefloxacin, norfloxacin & prulifloxacin. Avoid use in patient w/ liver or kidney diseases/disorders. Temporary infertility in women after long-term use. Not to be used during 3rd trimester of pregnancy. Pregnancy (1st & 2nd trimester) & lactation. Low-birth wt babies, neonates, nursing infants, infants & childn. Elderly & those w/ high fever.
Adverse Reactions
Dermatitis, erythema, pruritus, eczema, rash; increased blood urea. TEN, SJS, exfoliative dermatitis.
Drug Interactions
May induce convulsions w/ enoxacin hydrate, lomefloxacin, norfloxacin, prulifloxacin, ofloxacin. Increased effect of coumarin anticoagulants eg, warfarin. Increased blood levels of MTX, lithium. Decreased effects of thiazide (eg, hydrochlorothiazide) & loop (eg, furosemide) diuretics. Increased GI reactions w/ corticosteroids eg, methylprednisolone. Increased blood levels w/ CYP2C9 inhibitors (eg, fluconazole). Increased risk of bleeding w/ TCAs, SNRIs, SSRIs, ginkgo & LMWH. Increased risk of cyclosporine nephrotoxicity. Increased risk of acute renal failure w/ tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, tacrolimus. Reduced diuretic effectiveness, hyperkalemia, or possible nephrotoxicity w/ K-sparing diuretics.
