Ebastine
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic treatment of seasonal & perennial allergic rhinitis associated or not w/ allergic conjunctivitis; idiopathic chronic urticaria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 10 mg once daily. Severe symptoms May increase dose to 20 mg once daily. Severe hepatic impairment Max dose: 10 mg daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Not to be used in emergency allergy situations. Patients w/ known cardiac risk eg, those w/ prolonged QT interval, hypokalaemia. Concomitant treatment w/ compd increasing QT interval or inhibiting CYP3A4 enzyme eg, azole antifungals (eg, ketoconazole & itraconazole) & macrolide antibiotics (eg, erythromycin). Concomitant use w/ rifampicin. Not to be used by patients w/ hereditary galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency or poor absorption of glucose or galactose. May affect ability to drive or use machinery in sensitive individuals. Severe hepatic impairment. Avoid use during pregnancy & lactation. Childn <12 yr.
Adverse Reactions
Drug Interactions
Increased QTc interval; plasma levels w/ azole antifungals eg, ketoconazole or itraconazole & macrolide antibiotics eg, erythromycin. Decreased plasma conc w/ rifampicin. Interference w/ skin allergy tests. Increased effects of other antihistamines.
