Purified inactivated flu virus antigen [type A (H1N1) 15 mcg, type A (H3N2) 15 mcg, type B (Austria) 15 mcg, type B (Phuket) 15 mcg]
Indications/Uses
Prophylaxis against flu caused by flu virus subtypes A & B in adult & childn ≥6 mth.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM Inj in deltoid muscle of upper arm in adult & childn ≥36 mth or anterolateral aspect of thigh (or deltoid muscle of upper arm if muscle mass is adequate) in childn 6-35 mth. Adult & childn ≥6 mth 0.5 mL as single dose. Childn <9 yr who have not been vaccinated Administer 2 doses in at least 4 wk interval.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to egg, chicken, any other chicken component, & vaccine component. Anaphylaxis. Febrile patient or w/ malnutrition. Patients w/ CV & kidney disorders, or liver disease in acute phase, stadium increment, or in active phase; w/ acute resp disease or other active infectious disease; in latent & convalescence period of flu; who had fever w/in 2 days or allergy symptom eg, generalized rash after inj at previous vaccination; who showed Guillain-Barre syndrome or w/ neurological disorders w/in 6 wk from previous flu vaccination; in inappropriate condition to be vaccinated.
Special Precautions
Do not inj IV. High fever & convulsion. Insufficient Ab response in patients w/ endogenous or iatrogenic immunosuppression or diagnosed w/ immunodeficiency disease. Administer vaccine before prevailing (may be delayed according to epidemiological situation); w/ current-yr recommended strains. May affect ability to drive or use machines. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <6 mth.
Adverse Reactions
Pain, tenderness, erythema/redness, induration/swelling; drowsiness, fever, sweating, chills, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, malaise, headache, muscle aches, arthralgia. Inj site inflammation, warmth, pruritus, & bruising; rhinitis (rhinorrhea).
Drug Interactions
May diminish immunological response if used w/ immunosuppressants. False +ve results in serologic tests using ELISA method to detect Ab against HIV-1, Hepatitis C, & especially HTLV-1.
