Fluomizin vaginal tablets are white, oval and biconvex.
The active substance is 10 mg dequalinium chloride.
Excipients/Inactive Ingredients: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, and magnesium stearate.
Fluomizin vaginal tablets have an anti-infective and antiseptic effect. After insertion into the vagina, Fluomizin vaginal tablets dissolve and release the active substance dequalinium chloride. Dequalinium chloride belongs to the group of active substances called quarternary ammonium compounds. It has a broad antimicrobial spectrum and is effective against bacteria, fungi (yeasts) and protozoa (Trichomonas), which can be the cause of vaginal infection.
Fluomizin exerts its action locally within the vagina.
It is mainly use for the treatment of vaginal infections. Marked relief with regard to discharge and inflammation generally occurs within 24 to 72 hours.
Fluomizin may also be used for achievement of asepsis before gynaecological operations and deliveries.
How to use Fluomizin: If not otherwise instructed by a doctor, follow the directions as follows.
The usual dose is one vaginal tablet daily for six days.
Insert the vaginal tablet deeply into the vagina in the evening before retiring. This is best performed in a reclining position with the legs slightly bent.
The treatment should be interrupted during menstruation and continued when menses are ceased.
If the patient has the impression that the effect of Fluomizin is too strong or too weak, talk to the doctor or pharmacist.
Fluomizin contains excipients which do not dissolve completely, such that remains of the tablet are occasionally found in the panties. This is of no importance for the efficacy of the medicinal product.
In rare cases of a very dry vagina, it is possible that the vaginal tablet does not dissolve and is discharged by the vagina as intact tablet. As a consequence, the treatment is not optimal. However, this is not harmful to the vagina. For prevention, the vaginal tablet can be moistened with a little tap water before insertion into a very dry vagina.
The patient should use a sanitary towel or panty liner. There is no change in colour of the underwear. Change underwear and flannel daily and launder them at a temperature of at least 80°C.
If the patient forgets to take Fluomizin: Do not take a double dose to make up for forgotten individual doses, continue with the use of one vaginal tablet daily.
If the patient use more Fluomizin than he should: Application of more than 1 vaginal tablet will not increase the efficacy of Fluomizin. This will rather result in an increase of undesirable effects. However, no severe adverse effects after using an overdose of Fluomizin have been reported.
In the case of an overdose, a vaginal lavage should be performed to remove rests of the tablets.
Do not use Fluomizin: if the patient is hypersensitive (allergic) to dequalinium chloride or any of the other ingredients of Fluomizin; if the patient has an ulceration of the vaginal epithelium or the neck of the uterine; if the patient has not reached sexual maturity and did not yet have first menstruation.

If the patient has further questions, ask the doctor or a pharmacist.
This medicine has been prescribed for them personally and should not pass it on to others.
It may harm them, even if their symptoms are the same as the patient.
Effects when treatment with Fluomizin is stopped: A treatment of less than six days may result in a relapse. The discomfort may disappear often before the infection is completely cured. Therefore, do not stop treatment early, even when no discomfort (e.g. itching, discharge, smell) anymore.
Pregnancy: Based on the present experience with Fluomizin during pregnancy, there is no evidence for adverse effects of dequalinium chloride on pregnancy or on the health of the foetus/newborn child. Therefore, Fluomizin may be used during pregnancy, but only after consultation of a doctor.
Ask a doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
Breast-feeding: Fluomizin may be used during lactation, but only after consultation of a doctor.
Ask a doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
Like all medicines, Fluomizin can have side effects.
In individual cases, where the vaginal surface (vaginal epithelium) was pre-damaged, e.g. in consequence of an oestrogen deficit or distinct inflammation, bleeding surface defects (erosions) in the vagina have been reported.
Some very rare cases of fever have been reported. In these cases, the treatment should be stopped.
Vaginal infections cause complaints such as itchiness, burning and discharge. These complaints disappear usually during treatment. In rare cases, local complaints such as itchiness, burning and reddening can increase at the beginning of the treatment. In these cases, it is not necessary to stop the treatment. However, if the complaints persist, see a doctor for advice as soon as possible. If the patient notices any side effects not mentioned in this monograph, inform the doctor or pharmacist.
Using other medicines: Inform a doctor or pharmacist if the patient is taking or has recently taken any other medicines, even those not prescribed.
