Ferric hydroxide sucrose complex (equiv to Fe 100 mg)

Indications/Uses

Fe deficiency in patients who need rapid Fe delivery, cannot tolerate oral Fe therapy or non-compliant. Active inflammatory bowel disease where oral Fe prep is ineffective.

Dosage/Direction for Use

Individualized dosage. IV infusion 100 mg in at least 15 min followed by 200 mg in at least 30 min. IV inj 100 mg slowly over 1 min/mL. Max: 200 mg 3 times wkly.

Overdosage

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity; anaemias not caused by to Fe deficiency, Fe overload or disturbances in utilisation of Fe, patients w/ history of asthma, eczema or other atopic allergy. Pregnancy (1st trimester).

Special Precautions

Liver dysfunction; acute or chronic infection. Discontinue in patients w/ on-going bacteraemia. May cause hypotension w/ rapid administration. Avoid paravenous leakage. CPR for treatment of serious allergic reaction. Pregnancy & lactation.
