Each vial contains Ceftriaxone sodium equiv. to Ceftriaxone 1.0 and 5.0 g.
CEFTRIAXONE is used in the treatment of serious gram-negative bacterial infections, including septicemia, bone and joint infection, female pelvic infections, intra-abdominal infections, gram-negative pneumonia, skin and soft tissue infections, burn wound infections and complicated urinary tract infections caused by susceptible organisms. It is used for treatment of meningitis in both children and adults.
Single dose has been found to be effective in the treatment of uncomplicated gonorrhea and the later stages of Lyme disease.
Usual dose: Adult and adolescent: 1-2 grams once daily, may be increased up to 4 g daily, in severe infections.
Pediatric dose: 25-37.5 mg per kg bodyweight, daily.
Note: Meningitis: I.V. 50 mg of Ceftriaxone per kg bodyweight every 12 hrs, with or without a loading dose of 75 mg/kg or 80 mg/kg bodyweight, every 12 hrs for three doses, then every 24 hrs.
Skin and soft tissue infections: I.V. 50-75 mg/kg bodyweight, once daily.
The maximum total daily dose in children should not exceed 4 g for meningitis or 2 g for other infections.
For intramuscular injection: Dissolve Ceftriaxone in 3.5 ml of 1% lidocaine solution and administer by deep intragluteal injection. It is recommended that not more than 1 g to be injected on either side. The lidocaine solution must never be administered intravenously.
For intravenous injection: Dissolve Ceftriaxone in 10 ml of water for injection and administer intravenous directly, lasting 2 to 4 minutes.
After reconstitution, the solutions retain at least 90% of their potency for 6 hours at room temperature or for 3 days if refrigerated at 4°C.
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins and penicillins.
Prior to reconstitution, store below 30°C.
