Doctors support mitigation of climate change impact on public health

June 20, 2016 – The Philippine College of Physicians (PCP) supports the call to craft and implement policies that will ease the burden of climate change impact on the health of the young, the poor and other vulnerable sectors.

“We see the devastation of homes and properties forces victims to evacuation centers, makeshift structures, tents, that are unfavourable for healthy living conditions. Poor sanitation and the variability of the weather after disasters give rise to respiratory and gastrointestinal illnesses and vector borne diseases, such as chikungunya and dengue fever,“ said Dr. Nenita Collantes, PCP president.

“Through PCP’s Crisis Preparedness Management committee, we continue to commit to respond to areas hit by typhoons through our network and resources…” Collantes added.

The PCP Foundation adopted the National Action Plan of the Climate Change Commission for 2011-2028, particularly the programs, Knowledge and Capacity development, Biodiversity Protection  and preservation, and Human Health Security.
