Amlodipine besilate

Indications/Uses

Management of HTN & prophylaxis of angina pectoris. May be used in combination w/ other antihypertensive & antianginal agents.

Dosage/Direction for Use

HTN Initially 5 mg once daily. Max: 10 mg once daily. Small fragile, elderly or patient w/ hepatic insufficiency Initially 2.5 mg once daily.

Overdosage

View Wilomax overdosage for action to be taken in the event of an overdose.

Administration

May be taken with or without food.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity. Cardiogenic shock, unstable angina, significant aortic stenosis & obesity.

Special Precautions

Patient w/ hypotension, poor cardiac reserve, heart failure. Should not be used in cardiogenic shock, in patients who recently suffered MI or in acute unstable angina. Should not be used to treat anginal attack in chronic stable angina. Increase risk of developing heart failure in patients w/ severe aortic stenosis. Discontinue in patients who experience ischemic pain. Hepatic impairment. Avoid during pregnancy. Not recommended during lactation.

Adverse Reactions

Abdominal pain, nausea, palpitations, flushing, edema, headache, dizziness, sleep disturbances, fatigue, GI disturbances, dry mouth, taste disturbances, hypotension, syncope, chest pain, dyspnea, mood changes, tremor, paresthesia, urinary disturbances, impotence, gynecomastia, wt change, myalgia, visual disturbances, pruritus, rashes (including erythema multiforme), alopecia, purpura, pancreatitis, hepatitis, jaundice, cholestasis, gingival hyperplasia, MI, arrhythmia, vasculitis, hyperglycemia, thrombocytopenia, angioedema & urticaria.

Drug Interactions

May enhance the antihypertensive effects of other antihypertensive drugs eg, β-blockers. May modify insulin & glucose response in diabetic patients.
