Per 5 mL Co-amoxiclav: Amoxicillin trihydrate 250 mg, clavulanic acid 62.5 mg
Indications/Uses
Treatment of bacterial infections due to susceptible gm +ve & gm -ve microorganisms including lower resp tract infection, otitis media, post-op infections, skin & skin structure infections.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Childn based on 20-40 mg/kg/day. Childn 8-12 yr 5 mL, 2-7 yr 2.5 mL, 9 mth-2 yr 1.25 mL. All doses to be taken tid.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Preferably taken at the start of meals for better absorption & to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Special Precautions
Perform periodic assessment of renal, hepatic & hematopoietic functions during prolonged therapy. Lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Diarrhea/loose stool, nausea, skin rash, urticaria.
Drug Interactions
Decreased efficacy w/ chloramphenicol, macrolides, sulfonamides, tetracycline, hormonal contraceptives. Decreased renal excretion & increased blood level w/ probenecid.
